DNTA 1202 Introduction to Dental Assisting
This course introduces students to the vital role of dentistry within the Army, beginning with a foundation in professional standards, personal hygiene, and the impact of nutrition on oral health. The curriculum emphasizes the human element of care through effective communication and patient service protocols, while also exploring the legal implications of dental practice. Students receive practical training in life-saving techniques, including American Red Cross CPR and the operation of oxygen equipment to manage medical emergencies. A significant portion of the program is dedicated to the administrative side of the clinic. Students learn to navigate dental terminology, initiate patient records, and manage appointments within the Electronic Health Record (EHR) system. The course further bridges the gap between administration and clinical support by teaching students how to accurately assess vital signs, understand dental therapeutics, and identify the signs and symptoms of medical crises.
