DNTA 1315 Chairside Assisting
This course provides an overview of dental assisting skills, focusing on the application of knowledge related to treatment room equipment, instruments, infection control, and materials. Students gain an understanding of the principles behind operating and maintaining equipment, including handpieces. A portion of the curriculum is dedicated to infection control protocols. Students learn to manage a safety program, perform treatment room setup and breakdown, and utilize Personal Protective Equipment (PPE). The course also covers decontamination and sterilization processes, including the operation of sterilization room equipment and the monitoring of efficacy. Finally, students explore the properties and uses of materials. This includes identifying safety guidelines and gaining experience mixing materials, taking alginate impressions, and producing diagnostic casts. By the end of the course, students will be proficient in the practices required to maintain a dental environment.
