MPO 553 Clinical Assessment for Adults: Cognitive & Personality III

This course will provide you with the necessary critical knowledge and skills related to the use of clinical assessment methods that assist in the evaluation of psychopathology, complex manifestations of emotion and behavior observed in the clinical context, highlighting military populations and military psychology-related clinical contexts and assessment approaches which can be used to guide clinical problem-solving and decision-making. This course focuses on adult assessment primarily within a military medical context. By the end of the class, students will be able to: 1) Write appropriate documentation (training assessment report) which summarizes and integrates findings from clinical intake (including information from other intake processes) with findings from assessment tools. Training assessment reports include a diagnostic conceptualization, clinical conceptualization, cultural and social conceptualization and treatment conceptualization; 2) Demonstrate ability to administer in a standardized manner the assessment tools reviewed during this course; 3) Evaluate the quality of a new or unfamiliar assessment instrument related to intellectual and cognitive assessment including a review of the psychometrics (reliability and validity estimates), standardization, development and purpose(s) of that instrument; 4) Discuss the psychometric pros and cons of the assessment tools reviewed during this course such as reliabilities, validities, and standardization, etc.
