Pharmacy Technology, A.A.S.

Overview

The Associate of Applied Science in Pharmacy Technology (AASPT) program provides education and training in the major disciplines of pharmacy operations to include: administration and supply, outpatient pharmacy operations, inpatient pharmacy operations, human anatomy and physiology, pharmacology, basic pharmaceutical calculations, and advanced pharmacy practice. This program includes a Phase 1 resident portion at the Medical Education and Training Campus and a Phase 2 clinical portion conducted at military and civilian medical treatment facilities. Quality assurance and safety techniques are emphasized throughout the program. Lectures, demonstrations, online materials, simulations, and laboratory practice are used throughout the program. This program provides graduates with the technical skills and knowledge required to achieve pharmacy technician entry-level competencies, and meets basic and advanced-level requirements set forth by the American Society of Health-System Pharmacists. Additionally, this program helps students prepare for the Pharmacy Technician National Certification Examination. The program prepares the student to perform inpatient and outpatient pharmacy operations in traditional and non-traditional practice settings.

Credentialing Information: Graduates of this program are eligible to take the Pharmacy Technician Certification Exam (PTCE) and qualify for the designation, Certified Pharmacy Technician (CPhT).

This program holds specialized programmatic accreditation, maintained through the Medical Education Training Campus (METC).
