MLTS 1313 Clinical Bacteriology I

This course provides a comprehensive study of clinically significant Gram-positive bacteria encountered in human infectious diseases. Students examine the taxonomy, structural characteristics, physiology, and pathogenicity of catalase-positive and catalase-negative Gram-positive cocci, as well as aerobic Gram-positive bacilli. Emphasis is placed on the differential identification of organisms including Staphylococcus, Streptococcus, Enterococcus, Corynebacterium, Listeria, and Bacillus species. Laboratory instruction focuses on specimen processing, differential staining, phenotypic characterization, and performing enzymatic, metabolic, and serological identification assays according to standard laboratory protocols.
