NURS 7230 Applied Concepts for Advanced Psychiatric Nursing
This course helps students develop and improve their advanced psychiatric nursing skills under the guidance of a qualified preceptor. The course will cover topics such as conducting and documenting comprehensive psychosocial assessments, developing appropriate treatment plans, and assessing and documenting outcomes of therapeutic interventions. Students will learn to apply neurobiological and epigenetic knowledge to explain aberrant patient behavior. The course is based on the expected competencies for advanced practice nurse in psychiatric mental health nursing, and includes case conferences, peer discussions, and collegial consultation to help students analyze multiple variables in psychiatric illness and determine the best mental health care for individuals in military and federal health care settings.
