FKA 101 Management of Dental and Medical Emergencies
Instruction in management of emergencies consists of lecture followed by laboratory exercises. The topics include intubation for general dentists, venipuncture techniques, emergencies in intravenous sedation, maxillofacial trauma patient evaluation and treatment, fracture stabilization, and various suturing types and techniques. During the second year of residency a life-like trauma simulation manikin exercise is conducted to test the resident in rapid assessment and demonstration of life-saving measures that one may encounter in an emergency and deployment situation. The residents accomplish both Advanced Cardiac Life Support and Basic Life Support certification immediately prior to starting clinical rotations.
