FKA 123 Orofacial Pain
This course consists of both lectures and clinic experience. Residents attend 36 lecture hours and have monthly literature reviews as well as quizzes evaluating their understanding of the lecture and reading material. Beginning first year, the residents rotate through the orofacial pain clinic 3.5 hours approximately every third week to evaluate and treat patients (70 clinic hours). They are expected to obtain a thorough history, complete an examination that includes muscle, joint, and dental components, and formulate a diagnosis and treatment plan for the new patients they evaluate. They also deliver occlusal appliances and sleep apnea devices and follow patients that are under treatment. They are given both a midterm at the end of their first year and final examination at the end of their second year.
