FKA 107 Advanced Periodontology 1
The first year of two years of periodontology portion of the 2 year residency program consists of didactic and clinical instruction in diagnosis and treatment of diseases and disorders of the periodontium. Lecture topics include periodontal anatomy, classification of periodontal diseases, periodontal examination, radiographic examination, etiology of periodontal diseases, prognosis, treatment planning, non-surgical therapy, oral medicine and periodontics, instrumentation, surgical procedures, adjunctive procedures and antibiotic use, bone grafting and barrier membranes, growth factors in periodontics, surgical evaluation and techniques for implant placement, perio-restorative, and perio-endodontic considerations. The residents also get 214 hours of clinic time during the first year to learn a variety of non-surgical and surgical periodontal procedures and become familiar with a broad variety of periodontal techniques and materials.
