NURS 5401 Operational Readiness: Military Mountain Medicine (M3C)

Students will receive operational readiness content to expand their clinical specialty skills training. The course will cover content related to mountain rescue, low and high angle extraction in mountainous terrain, wilderness medical operations, prolonged field care, and advanced wilderness field care for injuries and illnesses in an austere mountain and wilderness environment along with generalized self-awareness of stressors associated with austere environments. The M3C course provides attendees a robust knowledge base in the evaluation and treatment of injuries and illnesses encountered in austere, wilderness and mountain environments. Students will also learn basic mountaineering to enable safe passage and patient transport during military operations or civilian rescue missions. The course will provide the core requirements for the Diploma in Mountain Medicine (DiMM).
