NURS 5409 Directed Study: Introduction to Nursing Academia
This directed study course is a well-defined and substantive academic activity designed to familiarize the participating student with the three pillars of academic faculty: Scholarship, Teaching and Service. This elective course is designed to provide USU students a context for the expectations and role of doctoral faculty in graduate nursing education. Students will be afforded the opportunity to explore their philosophical view of higher education and gain insight to faculty expectations as required by schools of nursing to meet the AACN, CCNE, National League for Nursing, COA, and National Academy of Sciences (NAS) core competencies.
The student will be introduced to the many academic processes and responsibilities expected of faculty in doctoral/graduate nursing education. This course will guide the student in preparing a professional scholarly presentation for a classroom presentation, support the preparation of an abstract, poster or presentation for professional nursing association, and experience faculty committee membership expectations.
