HCB 1103 Introduction to Patient Care Skills
This foundational course introduces students to essential patient care skills, emphasizing safety, assessment, and basic life support. Students will learn and practice infection control safety precautions, patient responsiveness assessment (AVPU), vital sign measurement, and the importance of reporting abnormal values. The course covers techniques for obtaining patient history and documenting allergies. Students will also develop skills in patient assessment, including evaluating general appearance and pain. Additionally, students will learn patient transfer techniques, including one- and two-person carries and proper patient positioning. The course culminates in healthcare provider-level Basic Life Support (BLS) training and certification. This course provides the fundamental skills necessary for entry-level healthcare roles.
