HCB 2304 Trauma, Toxicology, and Pharmacology

This course further advances students' skills in emergency medical care, focusing on the management of trauma, toxicological emergencies, and pharmacological interventions. Students will gain comprehensive knowledge and practical abilities in managing a variety of traumatic injuries, including hypo/hyperthermia, eye injuries, abdominal wounds, impaled objects, and burn injuries. The course covers wound assessments, including the assessment and treatment of dermatological conditions, the identification of dermatological abnormalities, wound care, and the removal of superficial foreign bodies. Additional topics include assessing patients for hazardous substance exposure, assisting in the treatment of CBRNE patients, and managing intoxications and poisonings. A significant portion of the course is dedicated to medication administration, encompassing dosage calculation, prescription preparation, identifying drug contraindications, proper disposal of expired items, and assessing patients for treatment side effects and adverse drug effects, including anaphylactic reactions. The course concludes with essential skills in scene safety, primary and secondary patient assessments, and performing physical assessments.
