HCB 2401 Clinical Procedures and Documentation in Healthcare

This course provides a comprehensive overview of essential clinical procedures and documentation practices in healthcare settings. Students will develop proficiency in documenting patient care, transcribing healthcare information, reviewing patient charts, and utilizing effective communication skills. The course covers infection control, including safety precautions, procedures, biohazardous waste disposal, treatment room disinfection, and sharp instrument stick reporting. Students will also learn to perform urinary catheterization and removal, nasogastric tube insertion and removal, establish sterile fields, and perform electrocardiograms (EKGs). Additional topics include documenting intake and outputs (I&Os), conducting preliminary interviews of personnel exposed to communicable diseases, documenting patient care using the SOAP format, administering and documenting immunizations, collecting laboratory specimens, performing venipuncture, and verifying specimen labels. This course equips students with the practical skills necessary for accurate and safe specimen handling and patient immunization within various healthcare settings.
