HCB 2203 Advanced Patient Assessment and Management

Building upon the foundational skills acquired in HCB2302, this course delves into more advanced assessment and management techniques for patients in emergency situations. Students will develop expertise in evaluating and assisting patients with a range of conditions, including ear, nose, and throat (ENT) and eye conditions. A significant focus is placed on neurological and psychiatric emergencies, including seizure disorders, altered levels of consciousness, neurological disorders, suicide risk assessment, and managing patients with unstable mental status. Students will learn to perform neurological checks, TBI neurocognitive exams, visual acuity exams and conduct thorough ear, nose, and throat examinations. Additionally, students will gain proficiency in the safe application and removal of patient restraints, and in performing de-escalation procedures for unstable patients.
