MLTS 1416 Clinical Parasitology and Mycology
This course provides a comprehensive study of clinically significant fungi, human parasites, and routine gastrointestinal diagnostic procedures. Students examine the taxonomy, structural characteristics, life cycles, pathogenicity, and laboratory diagnostic methods for yeasts, molds, protozoa, helminths, and arthropod vectors. The curriculum emphasizes the microscopic identification of diagnostic stages (trophozoites, cysts, ova, larvae, microfilariae, and fungal elements) in clinical specimens such as blood, tissue, stool, and body fluids. Additionally, students analyze clinical case studies and perform routine stool assessments, including specimen concentration, differential staining, fecal leukocyte evaluation, and occult blood detection.
